Waste incineration & flue gas treatment

Processes within a waste incineration plant or other power station often involve complex and demanding applications for pumps. As the composition of the waste is not always consistent, the same applies to the water. The medium to be pumped may contain chemical components such as acids or alkalis, as well as potentially toxic compounds. Consequently, high – and, in particular, specific – demands are placed on the chemical resistance, reliability, safety and ease of maintenance of the pumps.

A key application within the incineration plant is the flue gas scrubber. The flue gases from the plant are often cooled and ‘scrubbed’ in counter-current flow with water, whereby the water absorbs certain components from the flue gas. One of the most important of these is sulphur, which, once absorbed by the water, forms sulphuric acid and lowers the pH. To neutralise this, lime milk is used, which has a high pH but is also abrasive. IB-Pompen has pumps specifically designed for this purpose, which are resistant to both the erosion caused by solid particles and the corrosion caused by the chemicals used.

Thanks to the many years of experience of IB-Pompen and our suppliers in the energy industry, we are always able to offer the right pumping solution. Whether it concerns a simple centrifugal pump for purification and/or leachate water, or large pumps for flue gas cleaning or lime milk applications.
