A peristaltic pump relies on the ability of a flexible elastomer hose to deform and then return to its original shape.
1. Rollers or shoes compress the hose until it is fully closed at one point.
2. As the roller or shoe moves on, the hose behind the compression point springs back to its original shape. This creates a vacuum that draws liquid in on the suction side.
3. The advancing compression point moves the liquid through the hose to the discharge side.
Because only the inside of the hose comes into contact with the liquid, the purity and properties of the product are preserved. No dynamic seals or valves are required, which keeps the number of wear parts and spare parts to a minimum. This results in minimal maintenance and low operating costs.
The pump is self-priming and does not need to be filled with liquid before starting. It can run dry without damage and operates in both directions of rotation, so the flow direction can easily be reversed, for example to pump product back or to clean the pipeline.
